The story of Gem&Nice

The origin of this site goes back to when I was pregnant with a set of twin boys expected at Midsummer. Boys we didn't get to know, but ours nonetheless.

I have a knack for spelling and as a result people have pushed me towards writing most of my life. I dabble in photography - you can see some of the things I’ve done here and there. I also learned how to cook from my husband chef-extraordinaire. I take the ‘more spices, less sugar’ approach. I design. I illustrate, sometimes I make websites for dentists, and I’ve also been known to offer indiscriminate graphic design under different names. Independent movie making is another one of our hobbies, and we are frontiersmen in making moving pictures a high definition video reality.

I spend a lot of time at home - so much so that I notice when it’s been a while since I’ve ventured out. Too much bad design makes me feel bombarded so I prefer to stay in. Away from the rednecks and the racists and their sense of entitlement. I grew up in one of the few non-rural parts of Idaho. The possibility of such notions as an ongoing part of humanity never occurred to me. The only racists I'd ever heard of were drug dealers.

My name is Jill Smyth - these are my tales.
